I had not appreciated that all transportation in Venice is by water. Beautifully varnished water taxis, service barges, ambulances, fire fighting vessels, vaporetti, cruise ships and garbage boats bring whole new meaning to the concept of close quarters boatmanship. Here are a few pictures.
We have decided to explore the minor canals of Venice in our little dinghy with its 3.5 hp outboard. I have researched the legalities and we have obtained canal charts. That will be an adventure, with reports to follow.
