Astipalaia

We had been recommended this anchorage by some Germans at Nisiros and we are suitably impressed. Entering the snug, landlocked bay at 4 after a bash round the northern point of Astipalaia we dropped the hook in clean sand. A little collection of farm houses on the waterfront against a backdrop of volcanic hills with scrubby vegetation.Asti001Asti002

Flat water, solitude and silence. Well, silence apart from the clang of goat bells echoing round the bay. We nearly went for a swim but chose instead a bottle of quite drinkable Turkish red wine and Don Giovanni. After flower arranging Chris did excellent things with aubergine, peppers, tomato, mushrooms and a gas flame while I tinkered. IMG_0939

Tainui is getting into shape and so are we. There is a shrinking list of little jobs to work through but I am making progress. Tomorrow we will head for Amorgos, insh’Allah. There is a SW gale due the following day and it we will tuck in somewhere snug for that.
