Wreck Bay

Wreck Bay at Puerto Moreno is a pretty little harbour open only to the NW. With constant southerly winds it is a secure anchorage. There are many small local boats, some cruise ships and two other cruising yachts – a pretty French yacht heading north from Patagonia, and a Canadian cruising boat also heading north.

The water is crystal clear and curious sea lions circle us as we anchor. Several hours of check-in procedure included having a diver inspect the bottom of the boat for barnacles. If they find any they send you 40 miles out to sea to clean them off – fortunately we had none. The officials (immigration, national parks, port captain, quarantine) were courteous but serious. We passed except for some oranges with black spot which were confiscated, and an infestation with tiny ants which required fumigation.

What with the sea lions, turtles, iguanas, frigate birds and pelicans, Rosie is in seventh heaven. After a meal ashore we collapsed.
